Adopting an Accessibility Standard at LWTech
Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) is committed to providing access to information for all, therefore we are taking the following measures to ensure accessibility of the college's public facing website (LWTech.edu), and third-party platforms utilized by students, staff, and community members. LWTech is working to:
- Align accessibility with the college's Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) efforts and Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Themes.
- Expand on the existing internal accessibility policies to help establish training opportunities and best practices throughout the college.
- Integrate accessibility into the college's procurement practices.
- Assess and resolve accessibility non-conformance and barriers for students, staff, and community members.
Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. LWTech strives to achieve WCAG 2.1 AA conformance on its public facing website and all third-party websites that are publicly accessible to students, staff, and community members. WCAG covers a wide range of recommendations for making web content more accessible. The college is currently conducting an audit to determine the extent to which its website and third-party platforms are compliant.
Remediation, Limitations, Accommodation
With the accessibility audit, remediation of the current public facing website will follow within certain limitations, including but not limited to the website header, footer, some binary files (e.g., PDFs), missing ALT text in some images (that are decorative), and color contrast.
The college is also concurrently engaged in redesigning the current public facing website that will address all non-conformance features of the website. This website will be launched sometime in the 2023-2024 academic year.
Third-party websites and applications will also be assessed and remediated as needed to conform to the adopted standard.
