LWTech President, Dr. Amy Morrison

As we celebrate our 75th anniversary, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to you for your unwavering support of our students and Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech). This remarkable milestone is a testament to the passion, dedication, and resilience of our entire community—faculty, staff, and students.

In 1949, the Lake Washington School District established what would become Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) as a small adult vocational training program, beginning with just a single course in sewing. In 1991, we began offering degrees, which led to the launch of the state’s first new dental program in 22 years in 1996, and now, as the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington, we offer 12 bachelor's degrees, 42 associate degrees, and 70 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Our journey has taken us from sewing to satellites! Throughout the years, we’ve expanded our offerings to meet industry demands, thanks to longstanding partnerships with leaders in fields like autobody repair, healthcare, technology, gaming, machining, architecture, and aerospace.

Beyond program growth, our campus has also flourished. Recent additions include our new Childcare Center, set to open in 2025, and the state-of-the-art Center for Design, opening in 2026. These facilities reflect our commitment to creating a supportive, innovative environment for our students.

Our success would not be possible without our dedicated faculty and staff, whose expertise and commitment inspire our students to thrive. Our students choose LWTech because they know they’ll receive the skills and training they need to build successful, impactful careers.

We also want to thank our donors and community members. Your generosity over the years has been instrumental in helping us shape a future where students can pursue their passions and achieve their dreams.

As we celebrate this 75th anniversary, we honor the collective effort that has brought us to this point and look forward to the possibilities ahead. We invite you to visit our campus and see firsthand the incredible work being done by our students, faculty, and staff.

Thank you for believing in our mission of preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s careers. Here’s to 75 years of innovation, growth, and excellence—and to an even brighter future!

With appreciation,
