You'll learn how the enhanced Discussions feature boosts student engagement, how to use the Inbox for streamlined communication, and strategies for making your course accessible and easy to navigate. These tips will help you create an inclusive and user-friendly learning environment that supports all students.

Classroom Tech: AV Training

Most of the general lecture spaces have been updated to display units! No more projector lightbulbs burning out or giving wrong color displays. Come learn the new and easy system. Those that have been using them, you might learn a new trick.

How to Schedule Rooms with 25Live

Have you had your meeting interrupted by IT or Facilities because you didn’t schedule the room? Now is your chance to learn more about 25Live and why it’s important to schedule the time. Training guides have been updated and will be provided (will be available on the website as well).

Learning Outcomes Unlocked: Designing Courses Students Understand

In this session we will delve deeply into course learning outcomes. Teachers benefit from a better understanding of their course outcomes, which can shape assignments, activities and instruction. Students benefit from understanding better what they are supposed to be learning and how it can help them in the future. Reduce unnecessary or superfluous assignments, focusing only on what your students are supposed to learn! After this session, you will feel empowered to interrogate and interpret your course's learning outcomes to gain a whole new understanding of what your course is all about.

My Professor Said it is Okay to use AI to My Professor Said it's a No-No: Student Dilemmas in the use of AI

Academia is buzzing with discussions on the use of AI. This presentation is to facilitate a students' perspective on the use of AI specifically generative AI in their world. It attempts:

  1. Understand: Include and acknowledge narratives amongst student population
  2. Evaluate: Foster discussion through bringing visibility to student voices
  3. Analyze: Deliberate on how best AI, specifically generative AI, can be integrated towards enhancing student learning and student success in classrooms.

Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) for Asynchronous Courses

In this session you will learn about the federal requirements for Regular and Substantive Interaction and what Canvas tools can help you meet them, self-assess your online courses, and draft a plan for implementing and improving interactions with your students! Additionally, you will collaborate with other LWTech faculty to share ideas and best practices.

Supporting Queer Students

Sam will be going over LGBTQIA+ topics, with specific focus on Gender and Pronouns for LWTech employees. Snacks provided! Feel free to bring a lunch!

Teams Basics

You’ll gain practical skills for integrating Teams into your course. We’ll guide you through creating meeting links, including handling multiple instructors, customizing meeting settings, break out rooms and saving and sharing recordings effectively. You’ll also discover best practices to ensure students can easily find the links they need. Additionally, we'll cover how to seamlessly add virtual office hour links to your Canvas course. This session is perfect for instructors who want to streamline course management and enhance student access and engagement.

Teams Advanced

Teams is more than just a meeting and chat platform. Discover how to leverage Teams for file sharing, creating digital notebooks, and much more. In this advanced workshop, you’ll dive deeper into features like managing channels, using integrated apps, collaborating in real-time on documents, automating workflows with Power Automate, and setting up advanced permissions and roles. As a versatile tool for the LWTech community, Teams helps us achieve our educational goals together.

Teen Whisperer

This session is open to any faculty and may be especially beneficial for new instructors and faculty who do a lot of advising.

If you’ve attended before, let’s share what’s new with the Gen Z’s. If you haven’t: Who are these teens in your classroom?! Why won’t they turn on their camera or mic on Teams!?! Why can’t I get them into my office hours?!!?! Your friendly local high school experts will facilitate a workshop on some straightforward strategies for connecting with the youth in your classroom. We will also have our Faculty Counselor present you with friendly neighborhood tips on trauma-informed care, and what it looks like in the classroom.

Understand some of the biological, psychological, and social factors affecting teenagers today and learn to apply that understanding to guide and motivate the youngest students in your classes.

Update on AI

Marcelo Guerra Hahn will share what he's learned during his summer tech travels as related to Artificial Intelligence.

Using DesignPLUS to Generate Photo Rosters

Exciting things are coming to Canvas with the new DesignPLUS tool! In this session you will learn how to transform the default People view in Canvas from a course roster list of users to a series of student cards that make it easier to see student profile images.

What the Library Can Do For You

Our three Librarians will introduce you to the variety of resources/supports available through the Library and will take time to hear your ideas for collaboration. The Library has a wide range of resources, from physical books, equipment, and study space to digital collections and faculty project funds. Faculty Librarians can support you in teaching students how to find information and ethically cite it. We enjoy collaborating with faculty on library events and (student or faculty authored) publishing projects. Come and find out more!
