LWTech's Continuing Education Local Anesthetic/Nitrous Oxide program is designed for:
- Recent Dental Hygiene graduates who have graduated from an accredited Dental Hygiene program, are seeking licensure in Washington State, and plan to take the Western Regional Board Exam (WREB).
- Registered Dental Hygienists seeking to update and expand their skills, or returning to practice.
All clinical training is supervised by licensed dental hygienists and dentists who are experienced in teaching expanded functions and licensed in Washington State.
Lake Washington Institute of Technology's Dental Hygiene program is accredited by the American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation. This course is approved by the Washington State Department of Health, Dental Hygiene Examining Committee, and is accepted by the WREB.
Program Information
Pain control in dentistry requires the study of local anesthesia nitrous oxide and an understanding of nerve conduction and pain. This course is designed to expand your basic dental hygiene knowledge in pain control and in head and neck anatomy. It also provides additional didactic information and clinical experience in the administration of local anesthetic agents. To successfully complete this course students will demonstrate clinical competency in both local anesthesia techniques and nitrous oxide sedation.
The fundamentals of local anesthetic administration techniques are presented in this eight week course. Topics covered include; topical anesthetics, dose considerations, inadequate anesthesia, anatomical factors and medical emergencies related to the delivery of local anesthesia.
This eight week course includes seven weeks independent online study with four online quizzes. Course materials and assignments are provided via the Canvas online course management system. Week eight is a three-day (approx. 24 hour) intensive clinical hands-on practical experience where students learn to administer local anesthetic and nitrous oxide.

- Local Anesthetic/Dinitrogen Dioxide: December 16, 18, 2024 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and December 17, 2024 1 p.m.to 5 p.m.
- Local Anesthetic Only: December 16-18, 2024 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Dinitrogen Dioxide Only: December 15, 2024 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
