Lake Washington Institute of Technology's (LWTech) Government Relations office promotes the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) and LWTech's state legislative agenda, and works to elevate the level of support LWTech receives from the state of Washington. It coordinates the LWTech's national agenda by interacting with our Washington State Congressional Delegation, executive branch agencies, and national education policy groups. Government Relations also works closely with local governments to strengthen LWTech's connections and support.
As part of the external relations activities we work with many state businesses, and business and education organizations including, but not limited to: Association of Washington Business (AWB), Washington Business Alliance (WaBA), Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA), Life Science Washington, and League of Education Voters.
On April 18, 2011, Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire signed Substitute Senate Bill 5664 to change the name of Lake Washington Technical College to Lake Washington Institute of Technology, effective July 22, 2011.
